WhatchAlarm

For Apple Watch

Wake up on the way up, not mid-dream.

Give WhatchAlarm the latest time you can afford to get up, and a window before it. Inside that window the watch waits for the moment you are already surfacing — and taps you awake then. If it never finds one, it wakes you exactly at your deadline.

What it's actually doing while you sleep

You don't sleep at one depth — you rise and fall through cycles all night. A fixed alarm fires wherever it lands, which is why 7:30 can feel like being dragged up from the bottom. WhatchAlarm only looks inside the window you allow, and picks the nearest moment you were already coming up.

1

Set it on the watch

Pick your latest wake-up time and a window — 10 to 30 minutes — and tap Start. Or build a weekly schedule, with its own time for each day, and leave it running.

2

Your phone can be anywhere

The alarm lives on the watch. The iPhone can be in another room, face down, or switched off entirely.

3

It watches for the shallow end

When the window opens, the watch reads wrist movement and heart rate — turning over, a rising pulse, the signs you are already close to the surface.

4

Gentle taps first

It starts with light taps on the wrist rather than a jolt, and escalates only if you stay asleep.

What's different about it

It runs on the watch, not the phone

Most smart alarms lean on the iPhone working in the background — which iOS grants sparingly, and which stops entirely if you keep Background App Refresh off. WhatchAlarm books its own wake-up window with the watch instead.

The deadline is never negotiable

The wake-up at your latest time is scheduled the moment you tap Start. Even if the app is shut down or the detection finds nothing, that alarm is already in the queue.

Nothing leaves your wrist

No account, no sign-in, no servers, no analytics. Your heart rate is read on the watch, used on the watch, and never transmitted anywhere.

Honest about what it is

Sleep-phase detection from a wrist sensor is a good heuristic, not a laboratory measurement. So it only ever moves your alarm earlier, inside a window you chose.

A week at a time

Weekdays at 7:30, Saturday at 9:00 — each day gets its own time. The alarm rings on those days by itself, and a reminder the evening before covers the nights the smart part needs a tap.

On your watch face

A complication shows your next alarm at a glance. Tap it to open WhatchAlarm — and switch on the smart wake for tomorrow while you're there.

What you need

Keep a backup alarm for anything that matters. WhatchAlarm depends on your watch being worn, charged, and undisturbed by system settings. For a flight, an exam, or medication, don't make it your only alarm.
